edX is one of the biggest providers of Massively Online Open Courses (MOOCs), with over three million students, and over three hundred courses. They offer University-level professional education, at a fraction (or none) of the cost, and boast courses in everything from computer skills, to history, to hard science. Hallowed institutions of learning, from MIT to Berkeley, the Smithsonian to the University of Delft, offer courses on the site, and now so too does Microsoft.
